AMA Sushi at Rosewood Miramar Beach in Montecito, California represents the latest addition to the resort's exquisite amenities. The development of this exceptional dining destination was a collaborative effort that brought together renowned experts in their fields. Caruso, a developer known for combining top-tier real estate with five-star hospitality, orchestrated the transformation of a pre-existing bungalow into this remarkable establishment. This project's outstanding design earned it prestigious accolades, including the Award of Merit at the 50th Annual IES Illumination Awards and an Award of Merit at Lumen West 2023.
The restaurant's design pays homage to Japan's Ama, female free divers, with carefully chosen finishes that symbolize the ocean and the pearls these divers collect. A crucial element in creating the perfect ambiance for AMA Sushi is the lighting, skillfully crafted by eSquared Lighting Design. Their primary focus is on the intricate layers of lighting, highlighting architecture and interiors while providing task lighting where needed. Lighting plays a vital role in narrating the restaurant's story.
Notably, the sushi bar's curved onyx bar presented a unique challenge, but innovative solutions like QTL's Q-CAP flexible WALA fixture were employed to ensure the lighting complements the bar's design flawlessly. In this remarkable space, lighting highlights the tiers of the bar, showcasing intricate details and creating a luxurious, nacre-like finish. Exposed beams against inky-blue plaster ceilings provide an atmosphere reminiscent of an Ama diver's view of the sky from the depths of the sea. The choice of 2700K for lighting fixtures enhances the restaurant's warm ambiance, carefully selected to align with the overall design.
